Scaling of steam turbine is a common phenomenon in thermal power plants. In addition to the reduction of steam turbine′s output and efficiency, scaling will also cause axial thrust augmentation and blade damage, and affect the unit's safe and stable operation as a result. The reasons for scaling of steam turbine were analyzed based on its feature in a case of the No. 3 unit in a power plant. And some effective precaution measures such as reinforcing the management of boiler′s operation status, strengthening the quality supervision of water and steam as well as taking proper lay-up protection method were put forward to prevent the scaling of steam turbine.
